very spooky october favorites
Fall 2015 was a huge time for new music for me. August, September, and October were very music-heavy months and I actually got back into using Spotify again. Focusing on just October, here's a list of new releases from bands I love, and choice songs from new bands I discovered (or, more accurately, were told to listen to). Listed in chronological order of discovery date.
- Julia Nunes - "Make Out"
- Hippo Campus - "South" and "Close to Gold"
- The Vaccines - "Do You Want a Man?"
- Thee Oh Sees - "Toe Cutter - Thumb Buster"
- The Walters - "New Girl (Tom's Song)"
- King Tuff - "Bad Thing"
Speaking of Hippo Campus! I saw them open for JR JR at Neumos in early October. I was second row (after showing up to doors an hour early on accident...) and they put on a great show. I waited around after to see if I could meet them, but I went to the concert alone and needed to catch a bus before it got too late... so I decided to leave the venue and give up on seeing them. But then! Turns out all the members were standing outside, so I got to talk with Zach about Minneapolis, the skyline from 35W, playing the mainroom at First Avenue with Bad Bad Hats, and more MN things.
This is a picture from Ravenna Park, which is a really short walk from where I live. I really love our neighborhood-- it's pretty residential, and I've taken many long walks up and down the streets at night, enjoying the quiet tranquillity of the houses. I walked around Ravenna Park one October afternoon and really loved the maze of paths, the bridges, and endless trees.
